Delhi: Task force meeting on women’s safety, LG VK Saxena gave these instructions to the officers

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Tuesday chaired the 17th meeting of the Task Force on Women’s Safety in the national capital. During this, he has instructed the officials to make strict arrangements for women’s safety.

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has stressed about the safety of women in Delhi. Presiding over the 17th meeting of the task force, he has directed to make strict arrangements for women’s safety. Under this, officials have been asked to identify or fix street lights within 24 hours of receiving a complaint.

Lt Governor Saxena also stressed on the need to change the social mindset and basic attitude of men towards women. He stressed the need for undertaking sensitization campaigns of young and adolescent boys through gender workshops and suitably modified curriculum.

Emphasizing on timely repair of lights and lights at dark places in Delhi, the Lt Governor said that lighting should be included in the planning phase of flyovers, buildings and plantation etc. He also issued directions to work on a unified web portal for street lights owned by various agencies, which is currently being developed by IIIT-Delhi.

Along with this, he has also issued instructions to fix the responsibility of the concerned officer in case there is no improvement within a week. Saxena highlighted the need to ensure lighting under flyovers, in parks and under tall trees and directed the officials to solve the problem at the earliest.

With regard to fast track courts for women’s safety, when it was pointed out that 35 per cent of the 22 additional posts sanctioned for several additional courts to deal with rape and POCSO cases are yet to be filled, the Lt. Asked to try to fill up the posts at the earliest in coordination with the court.

With regard to ensuring last mile travel especially from metro stations, the Lt Governor expressed satisfaction over the proposed plan of 1000 e-cabs/autos operated exclusively by women. He has directed the officials to ensure their proper branding.
